Five Gold, One Silver and One Bronze Culminate As One Of The ‘Best Ever’ Results For PMLA

Peterborough Lakers Teams from all divisions Tyke thru Intermediate represented the PMLA extremely well at the 2019 Ontario Lacrosse Festival held August 2nd thru 11th in Durham Region.  Seven of the 15 Lakers teams participating came home with a medal.

The Tyke Divisions started the tournament where all three of our teams showed well in their respective divisions with each team advancing to the playoffs, but the Tyke 2 and Tyke 3 teams were unable to advance to medal contention.  The Nexicom Tyke 1 Lakers advanced to the A Division Championship Final where they played hard in a close match and claimed the Silver medal.

In the Novice Division, again all three Lakers teams played very well, with Novice 3 advancing to the Quarterfinals where they lost in Overtime.  The Novice 2 Lakers ranked high enough in the season to be placed in a very strong A Division, and despite playing their best lacrosse of the season, were unable to advance to playoffs.  Lakers Novice 1 advanced to the A Division Championship Final on Sunday evening, where they held on for a 2-1 win over London to claim the Gold medal.

The Hobies Sports Peewee 1 Lakers advanced to the final six in playdowns, then at the Festival finished in 4th place and advanced to the Bronze medal game where they defeated Kitchener-Waterloo with a goal in the final seconds to win 6-5 and claim the medal.

Also advancing to the final six, the Currie Tire/Hybrid Fitness Midget 1 Lakers finished top two to advance to the Championship Final where they claimed the Gold medal.

The Trans Canada Nissan Bantam Lakers contended in the B Division and were able to finish in the top four and move on to semi-final play but were unable to advance to the medal game.

In the Intermediate Division, our Lakers team advanced to the playoffs and continued to play strong into the Championship Final where they claimed Gold in the C Division.

Our Health Care Relocations Girls Lakers teams also participated in the Festival. The Midget Girls were not able to advance to playoff action.  The Peewee and Bantam Girl Lakers continued to put up dominating performances and went undefeated in the Festival earning Gold medals in both of their Division Championships.
