2020 Season Cancelled

By Aaron Garfat 06/21/2020, 9:00am EDT

The PMLA Executive has been closely monitoring local and provincial COVID-19 updates and how they pertain to our 2020 Rep lacrosse season, as well as following the direction of the Ontario Lacrosse Association.

On Thursday June 11th, 2020 the Ontario Lacrosse Association made the extremely difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Competitive season out of concern for the health and well-being of our lacrosse families and the greater lacrosse community.  We understand some families may be disappointed by this decision, but given the uncertainty about Covid-19 we feel it is our duty to act responsibly and help safeguard the health of our players, families, officials and volunteers.

The PMLA Executive has directed a full refund of fees for our Rep players who registered for the 2020 season, however, we are also offering families the opportunity to roll their registration fees to the 2021 season as a credit on their account while at the same time locking in their fees at the 2020 rate.

The PMLA has a number of expenses each year including insurance, website hosting, bank/credit card fees, equipment purchases, maintenance and storage costs that must still be covered for 2020. Without a 2020 season, it will be exceedingly difficult for our Association to meet those financial obligations.  In saying this, the PMLA wonders (if you are not rolling your fees to 2021) if you would consider taking only a partial refund to help offset our 2020 expenses. Please let us know if you can donate $20. Your donation will help ensure a season next year and help to reduce or eliminate the need for higher fees in 2021.

We ask that you please complete and submit the REFUND REQUEST FORM at the link below and we will then process your refund. Your refund will be credited back to the credit card used for the original registration payment. Please submit this form before July 3rd, 2020.   We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through the administrative process of issuing over 250 refunds, which may take up to 4 weeks.

We know that this is disappointing news for many children in our community who were looking forward to playing the game they love. As an executive we share that same disappointment. At this time all we can do is look forward with optimism to seeing everyone on the floor again in 2021 for a season which is sure to be full of fun and excitement.

COVID-19 UPDATE VIA ONTARIO LACROSSE ASSOCIATION

By Jef Dueck 03/13/2020, 4:45pm EDT

All Sanctioned In-Person Lacrosse Activities Paused Thru April 5th, 2020

With the ongoing developments related to COVID-19 and the concerns that people are sharing over its transmission, it’s important that we all work together to prevent and eradicate it as quickly as possible.

Therefor, as per a release issued today by the Ontario Lacrosse Association, the Peterborough Minor Lacrosse Association will pause all sanctioned in-person lacrosse activities (tryouts, training sessions, scrimmages, practices, games, etc.) effective immediately and until April 5th, 2020. Online activities, including promotion, registration and planning will continue during this period as we prepare for the upcoming season while monitoring the situation.

In the meantime, our hearts go out to those affected. We want everyone to know that they are part of the Ontario lacrosse community, and that we care about your health and safety above all else. We are closely following news reports and monitoring the impact that this situation is having across the province. Because we live and work in the amateur sports community, we understand the concerns raised by our members, especially considering the rising number of postponed events, programs and educational opportunities throughout the province.

Although the Public Health Agency of Canada maintains that the risk associated with contracting COVID-19 is low for Canadian citizens, the situation remains fluid and could change day-to-day. We encourage our members to visit ontariolacrosse.com for the latest updates and return-to-program information as we approach the 2020 season. Up-to-date risk assessment information and other resources published by the Canadian government related to COVID-19 can be found there. The PMLA and OLA remind everyone to consider good hygienic practices and safe contact in order to maintain a healthy environment. We are grateful for your understanding and your desire to begin the 2020 season as soon as it is safe to do so. Keep your sticks in your hands; we’ll be back soon!
